Senior Women artists of Fitzroy Crossing, Western Australia

Stories about country are the subject of the beautiful contemporary works by the women of Fitzroy Crossing.

They are stories that remind us that time is not necessarily linear: while it is only last century that many people of The Great Sandy Desert walked out of country and were confronted with Europeans and station life for the first time, the paintings are, in a sense, a timeless reference to country and connection to place; to a history that is ancient yet relevant to the identity of the women who continue to perpetuate it.
