A not-for-profit group has launched a program to help Indigenous parents in Roma become more involved in their children’s education.
The Downs Industry School Co-op says the Parent and Community Engagement scheme creates activities that both parents and the child can engage in.
Coordinator Jacinta Swain says it wants to use fun activities such as art programs to get parents and children learning together.
“No-one knows the Aboriginal art better than the elders themselves in the community, so I’m wanting to look at getting some elders in the community into the schools or even out of the schools with programs to have basically just kids themselves who are interested in art,” she said.
