The artwork of a group of Indigenous artists from Wilcannia has proved popular, with most works selling in the first week of a Sydney exhibition.
Executive officer of West Darling Arts, James Giddey, says the success of the exhibition shows the potential Wilcannia has to be a hub for emerging Indigenous artists.
Mr Giddey says the exhibition is all about testing the commercial appeal of the art.
“We are testing out these products that are being made,” he said.
“That’s the way we’re talking about it these days, not just a piece of art work.
“The response has been fantastic and what it’s turning out to be is Wilcannia branding basically.
“That’s what we’re doing, it’ll be easily identified product or art work that comes from Wilcannia.”
