Respected elder and artist Greeny Purvis Petyarre passed away at the Alice Springs hospital on 3rd May 2010 from an infection related to dementia. Apart from being a prestigious artist, Greeny was also a very high ranking tribal elder in Utopia, northeast of Alice Springs. He leaves behind his daughters Judy, Maureen, Jedda and Jennifer, granddaughter Katrina Greeny, wife Kathleen Purvis and many extended family including Lindsay Bird, Gloria Petyarre and Annette Davis (other Utopia artists).
