Three women – One country shares the connection between artist and place.

Judy Mengil, Daisy Bitting and Carol Hapke are connected by the country to which they belong; Ngarangarni. This exhibition is at the same time an individual expression by each artist but also creates a single voice in the depiction of a shared cultural place.

When an artist repeats an image it is to know a place in all its forms as each repainting reconnects with and reaffirms an artists’ sense of themselves and the Ngarrangarni Country to which they belong. It makes the heart strong and gives to the country itself a renewal. It is a deep spiritual and cultural act. As with the repainting of images at rock art sites and the ritualized and repetitive markings in ceremonial body painting the repainting of an image reconnects with the spirituality and heart of country.
