The winner, Jimmy Donegan’s Papa Tjukurpa, Pukara strikes me as a breakthrough for the artist, a mature, nuanced, and dynamic work, vibrant, full of incident, and superbly executed. But there are several other works by established artists that completely knocked me for a loop in this year’s selection.
