After four decades of dedication to the arts and the sale of Cooee Art in March 2023, Adrian Newstead has established Newstead Art as an independent venture. And the gallery’s first show will feature a solo exhibition of mixed-media work by Melbourne-based artist Annabel Nowlan, inspired by the vast and rugged landscapes of the NSW Outback.

Raised on a farm with her four sisters on Wiradjuri country, Bimbi in SW NSW, Annabel Nowlan draws on her lived experience of farming management, drought, history of settlement, and occupation of Indigenous country, where her convict ancestors were farmers for six generations. Her mixed-media works integrate her distinct painting style with use of vernacular text and the repurposing of scavenged materials, such as tarpaulins, wire, tin and copper.

The exhibition will open on Thursday, 13 March 6.00-8.00pm and run from 14-29 March at 31 Lamrock Avenue, Bondi Beach, NSW 2026.
