The New South Wales Member for Wollongong Noreen Hay has condemned a decision by the city’s gallery to continue an exhibition of paintings which some Aboriginal groups have labelled as “sickening and offensive.”
Ms Hay concedes she has yet to see the works, by Thirroul artist Paul Ryan, including images of homosexuality and decapitation.
Mr Ryan says the paintings are meant to provoke people to examine issues relating to the way early settlers treated indigenous Australians.
