Last week Michael Nelson was putting the final touches to a new work, ‘Kangaroo Dreaming’. To the untutored eye, the painting looks like an abstract layout of symmetrical symbols. But Nelson explains that it is a clear reconstruction of the tracks made in desert sand by a kangaroo when it is slowly grazing through the bush. (Detail from Michael Nelson’s “Kangaroo Dreaming.”)
