John Oster from Desart talks to the ABC about the bill going to parliament shortly relating to artist royalties:
“There’s not too much contention in the bill and it’s been a long process of sorting. We’ve been looking at this for many years, and the process of getting the legislation up has taken more than a year to do. So everyone’s had a chance to look at it,” he said.
“We hope we can get a bill that’s easy to work with.”
Mr Oster says Desart will now make suggestions on how the bill can be streamlined.
“In substance we agree with the draft legislation that they’ve put up. We think this is an important piece of legislation,” he said.
“But there are some things in it that we would like to streamline so that it’s easier for Aboriginal artists to understand the bill, and there are some administrative details in the bill that we’d like to look at.”
