Visitors to the renowned Aboriginal rock art sites at Mount Grenfell near Cobar will be able to step out in style following the completion of a new walking track.
National Parks and Wildlife Service area manager Sarah Carr said the new track would ensure people visiting the area would enjoy a better experience.
There were major problems with the old track after heavy storms and the new track should improve the area aesthetically as well as environmentally, Ms Carr said.
The new track blends into the landscape, providing better access and reduced erosion.
The magnificent rock art at Mount Grenfell is among the most accessible in NSW, with the first gallery being only a few hundred metres from the carpark.
While the track is relatively short, its construction required heavy stone work, using rocks from the surrounding area.
Members of the Mount Grenfell Board of Management were on hand to lay the last stone to officially open the track, Ms Carr said
In the meantime Mount Grenfell also has some new staff members. Tyrone Griffiths is the new field
officer while Owen Earl is the new ranger.
Both are looking forward to continuing to work with the Ngiyampaa people and the Board of Management that co-manages the important historic and cultural site.
