Following on from a Sell-out Show in London, Senior Watiyawanu (Mount Liebig – 325 kms west of Alice Springs) Artist, Bill Whiskey Tjapaltjarri is headlining an Exhibition of new works from his Community at Japingka Gallery. At around 85 years of age, Bill Whiskey Tjapaltjarri, a Pitjantjatjara Elder and traditional bush healer, has forged a new career as a celebrated Fine Artist whose work is in great demand internationally and nationally. These stunning paintings from Watiyawanu will be complimented with a second Exhibition in Gallery 2 featuring the finely executed paintings of Country by Senior Artists from the Utopia Community. Both Exhibitions will run from 8th August, 2008 through to 18th September in Japingka’s upstairs gallery spaces.
GALLERY 1:
New Paintings from Watiyawanu “ in association with The Watiyawanu Artists of Amunturrngu, Japingka Gallery is proud to present an Exhibition of paintings by a collection of established and emerging Artists from this highly regarded Community. Artists include: Telstra Award Winner, Ngoia Pollard Napaltjarri, Wentja 2 Napaltjarri, Lilly Kelly Napangardi, Topsy Peterson Nangala and of course Bill Whiskey Tjapaltjarri. Bill Whiskey is a brilliant Artist of innate natural talent, who even after only painting for three years was selected on to the 2007 annual list of the Top 50 Most Collectable Australian artists by a panel of Artists, Art experts and gallery owners.
GALLERY 2:
Utopia Collection – New Paintings from Utopia, including works by the two sisters of the late, great Minnie Pwerle (Gayle and Emily Pwerle). This is an exceptional collection of beautiful paintings that depict aerial views of the Artists’ Country and Dreamings in and around the Utopia region which is situated some 270 kilometres north-east of Alice Springs. Other featured Artists include: Barbara Weir, Gloria Petyarre, Telstra Award Winner – Kathleen Petyarre, Janelle Stockman, Peggy Purvis and early works by Minnie Pwerle.
These two exhibitions open on Friday, 8th August, 2008 @ 6.30pm and will run until 18th September, 2008 and are open to the public (Admission Free) seven days a week. Both Exhibitions can be Previewed online via the following Links:
