Annandale Galleries is proud to present an exhibition of new work by acclaimed Aboriginal artist Lofty Bardayal Nadjamerrek. Featured in the AGNSW Crossing Country exhibition, which opened at the Art Gallery on the 24 September, Lofty has a hugely distinguished career, having participated in numerous group and solo shows in Australia, Japan and the USA.
Displaying an incredible affinity with rock art, Lofty is well known for his figurative painting caught in space, choosing to maintain a pure technique that is based on the expression of forms, rather than the more common style of cross-hatching that is much in practice today.
Lofty’s landmark solo exhibition of works on paper at Annandale Galleries in June/July 2003 produced no less than seven museum sales, and with a selection of works that combines new barks with additional works on paper, the current exhibition is very much picking up where last year’s show left off.
Having begun his artistic career in the early 1980’s, Lofty is one of only two Northern Territory Australians to be honoured with the title of Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia.
