INVITATION TO A BRIEFING FOR THE
LANEWAY COMMISSIONS 2011
AN INDIGENOUS PUBLIC ART OPPORTUNITY
The Laneway Commissions are:
an annual season of temporary artworks in the public realm
experiential in nature, embracing all contemporary art practices
based on the artist’s choice of site (in Melbourne’s CBD), topic and
medium

including current and previous seasons of the Laneway Commissions.
The Laneway Commissions 2011 will be an exclusively Indigenous season,
open to Victoria-based Indigenous artists only.
The Laneway Commissions are developed by Council through a multi-phase
process :
1) Artists submit an initial, rough proposal:
Submissions for the Laneway Commissions 2011 will close in January
2011.
2) Concept development of a selected number of shortlisted proposals:
The City will work closely with the shortlisted artists to support
the concept develeopment phase.
3) Commissioning of final selected projects:
The season of commissioned projects is likely to be launched in late
2011.
