The powerful paintings of the late Johnny Warangkula Tjupurrula are now available for viewing at Alcaston Gallery. This is the last time paintings by the late artist will be shown together in the primary market, where the artist’s family and community directly benefit from the sale of the works. Funds generated by this exhibition will be committed to the development of the first real art centre at Papunya, Papunya Tjupi Pty Ltd.

In the last decade, prices paid at auction for major works by this artist have ranged from $100,000 – $500,000, indicating Johnny Warangkula Tjupurrula’s defining place within the early Western Desert art movement. A seminal artist, his paintings are of historical and aesthetic significance, and those currently available at Alcaston Gallery radiate with the energy and confidence of a senior painter with arresting painterly confidence and dexterity.

The exhibition is now on display at the gallery and online and works can be reserved or purchased. We are also happy to email high resolution images of specific works on request.

Alcaston Gallery feels priviliged to exhibit works from the late Johnny Warangkula Tjupurrula, in conjunction with Papunya Tjupi Arts, Papunya, Northern Territory.
