From This Art Week (Australian Art Collector):
As Queensland celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, the Queensland Government has announced the creation of a new art fair. The inaugural Cairns Indigenous Art Fair will take place from 21-23 August 2009.
At this stage there have been no announcements about participating art centres, galleries or artists, although the fair website says that community-owned art centres from Far North Queensland and Cape York will be at the fair, along with galleries from across Australia. Selected artists from the neighbouring Pacific region will also be invited to take part.
Queensland Premier Anna Bligh has announced that curator, arts producer and consultant Michael Snelling has been appointed to the role of Director.
The Queensland Government has provided $1 million to back the new fair until 2011.
