The Lam Collection is on display through South Texas:

On view through Oct. 25, the Lam Collection of Aboriginal Art is one of the most distinctive art exhibitions presented in South Texas this year.

The collection comes from the Lam family of San Antonio in an exhibition curated by Scott Sherer, director of the art gallery at the University of Texas at San Antonio. The individual works are from remote areas of Australia where many of the artists are isolated from contemporary civilization, often choosing to live without running water, electricity and nearby stores.

As a result, these contemporary works do not share the same intention as traditional Western art. Western art generally asserts that form is more meaningful than content. In contrast, the function of aboriginal art is to share and disseminate historical and spiritual traditions.
