The head of Desart in central Australia says the Federal Government has got its priorities right in granting extra money to the Aboriginal art industry.
A $10 million package for Aboriginal art was announced in this week’s Federal Budget.
The package is for the roll out of a commercial code of conduct, as well as additional support to community art centres.
John Oster says normally $7 million is allocated to all Aboriginal art centres nationwide and the $10 million increase is extremely significant.
“The funding increases we see here are going to work very importantly towards better organisations better governance better management and really support those things in this industry that have genuine value,” he said.
