The Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF) attracted more than 10,000 visitors and 150 artists last year. CIAF 2010 is promising to be bigger and better.

In the lead up to CIAF 2010 from August 20-22, Carbon will feature profiles of some of our most accomplished and expressive Queensland Indigenous artists.

Arone Meeks was born in 1957 in Laura in far north Queensland. He is a Kuku Midigi man, currently living in Cairns. Arone produces paintings, sculptures and prints that express a passion for country, spirituality, sexuality and politics. Arone is represented in many public collections in Australia, including the National Gallery of Australia, and the Queensland Art Gallery. His works are also featured in international collections, including the Institute of American Indian Art, Sante Fe, USA and the Bibliotech National de Paris, France.
