Event: art + place workshop

Want to breath new life into your public spaces, buildings, parks and facilities? Find out how in a free workshop on public art being presented at The Girringun Aboriginal Art Centre,Cardwell, on Wednesday 21 July 2010. Representatives from state and local government, incorporated not-for-profit groups, school teachers and developers are encouraged to attend as well as interested local artists.

Co-ordinated by Museum & Gallery Services Queensland, the art+place workshop will outline ArtsQueensland’s art+place funding program and present an illustrated view of inspirational public art from Australia and overseas. A public artist will also provide insights into their practice. Speakers include:

Presentation by Acting Government Curator, art+place, Arts Queensland, Robyn Daw, on art+place and guidelines for successful application
Illustrated overview by Dr Sally Butler, senior Lecturer in Art History, University of Queensland, of best practice international and Australian public art
Illustrated case study by artist, Judy Watson, on her own public art practice

After the workshop, there will be opportunities for one-on-one interviews with art+place personnel.

Those with a specific project are invited to book an interview slot so they can discuss their project and get feedback on how best to address the funding criteria. This is an opportunity to seek advice on what the assessment panel is looking for in a successful application.
