Born in Papunya and growing up in the Western Desert, Nellie Marks Nakamarra is the sister of Elizabeth Marks Nakamarra and step-daughter of Turkey Tolson.
Her painting style was influenced by the original Papunya artists including Mick Namararri, Uta Uta Tjangala and Turkey Tolson.
