Ric Spencer from the West Australian talks about Wanderlust
Wonderlust, the new presentation of the State Art Collection at the Art Gallery of WA based on five themes ” Home, Mapping, Presence, Story and Material Gesture ” is now not a chronological experience of art history but an interconnected series of dialogues.
The exhibition contains some Aboriginal art:
This is not the case in the remaining theme Presence because indigenous art despite the best efforts of most of us art writers, sits outside Western art as a tradition.
So I applaud the way Aboriginal art is given its own presence in Wonderlust and (for the most part ” this is not always the case) not played off against other art objects.
