No code of conduct will be used to keep exploitative art dealers out of this year’s Telstra indigenous art award, despite a push from within sections of the Aboriginal art industry.
Museum and Art Gallery NT indigenous art curator Franchesca Cubillo said this year’s award would not have the entry restrictions called for last year to keep carpet-baggers out.
She said the code needed to be brought in with “consensus” nationally throughout the industry, particularly with artists.
“The code of conduct hasn’t been signed off on at that national level yet,” she said.
She said it would be completed “hopefully within the next few months”.
