Budding artist Donovan Wilson’s A4-size drawing could be transferred onto a 13m mural at Redfern fire station after it was selected as a finalist in a statewide art competition.
The Patrician Brothers year 8 student’s drawing of indigenous Australian animals escaping a roaring bushfire, set on the backdrop of an Aboriginal flag, has earned him a place in the final eight of the NSW Fire Brigade indigenous art competition. Two-hundred entries were received.
The top four drawings will be enlarged to create a 13m by 2.2m fire safety mural to adorn Redfern fire station.
The competition is a National Reconciliation Week initiative to raise awareness about fire safety.
The winners will be announced in November.
