Marrickville Council’s Resident Artist in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studio at Addison Road Centre (ARC) is Ms Koori Love.
Ms Koori Love is the cheeky Koori Mail columnist who writes about love, relationships and Aboriginal communities for the Koori Mail newspaper.
For over five years Ms Koori Love has hidden behind articles in the Koori Mail newspaper but now she’s out in the open and inviting Marrickville residents to afternoon teas at her ARC 37d Hut on Sundays from 12pm until 2pm.
Marrickville citizens can visit Ms Koori Love, have a cup of mint tea and a bickie, have a yarn, and buy some mini books. Children can colour in and take away their own picture of Ms Koori Love.
The afternoon teas will run from Sunday 4 November until Sunday 16 December, and will coincide with the hugely popular weekly ARC Organic Markets.
The Marrickville area is increasingly being recognised as a leading independent arts centre, said the Mayor of Marrickville Councillor Victor Macri.
This is because Council is continuing to both strengthen Marrickville’s role as a leading centre for the arts within greater Sydney, and encourage and support growth in the creative industries, he said.
Council is determined to grow Marrickville as a cultural tourism destination, and ensure that our local artists have as many opportunities for their practice as possible, Councillor Macri said.
Marrickville Council has three residency programs: the Artist in Residency Program; the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studio Program, and Art Camp.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studio Program supports the ongoing growth of Aboriginal arts and culture. Marrickville Council values the important role Aboriginal and Torres Strait communities contribute to the cultural and artistic life of Sydney’s inner west.
The aim of the program is to provide support to Aboriginal artists and crafts people living in and/or contributing to Marrickville’s art and cultural life.
