Come join us for an unforgettable experience, exploring Australia’s cultural jewel “ the art of its indigenous people. This May, 7 delegates from the United States will be selected to go on a once in a lifetime tour visiting Australia’s indigenous lands, the people that live there and the art they produce.

Background
The Australian Trade Commission and the Government of the Northern Territory are seeking to raise the profile of indigenous arts in the US. Thus they have put together a subsidized mission and are currently seeking delegates.

The Tour
Dates: May“ June 2008
Beginning at Ayers Rock, delegates will travel by 4 wheel drive and light aircraft to visit the remote communities of central Australia, Arnhemland, the Tiwi Islands and the Kimberley regions. Delegates will visit art centres and galleries with international reputations and aboriginal artists at the communities. While visiting Darwin and Alice Springs delegates will have the opportunity to visit commercial and public galleries.

Responsibilities
The tour’s sponsors will cover all transportation (8 light aircraft flights, a commercial flight, permit costs and all ground transportation) and accommodation during the tour.

Delegates will only be expected to cover expenses related to getting to the start of the tour, departing from the end of the tour, some meal expenses and a nominal $1500 levy which contributes to the operation of the tour.
