Seven well known Aboriginal artists, Lloyd Hornsby, Laurie Nilsen, Peter Muraay Djerippi Mulcahy, Debbie Taylor, Raquel Jackson, Jennifer Herd and Bianca Beetson are each donating a major piece of work to be auctioned at the Heart Foundation s second annual East Coast Aboriginal Art Exhibition to be held at the State Library of Queensland from Tuesday 7 October to Sunday 12 October 2008.
The Art Exhibition celebrates the strength, tenacity and generosity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders communities in taking a stand to join the fight against heart disease and demonstrate their commitment to Close the Gap.
Heart Foundation CEO, Cameron Prout said, Over the last 35 years rates of heart disease have significantly declined in Australia and other developed nations. Unfortunately the same cannot be said of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people between the ages of 25-34 are seven to twelve times more likely to die of heart disease than other Australians of the same age. All work on display will be for sale and each artist will donate a commission of 25% from
