The Qantas Indigenous Young and Emerging Visual Arts Award acknowledges a young and emerging Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander visual artist who is making an outstanding contribution to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander visual arts.

The award highlights the role that young and emerging artists play in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in maintaining culture from elders to young people. It also recognises their artistic skills and potential to develop further as an artist.

The winner will have works exhibited at Qantas lounges across Australia or internationally. Individuals and organisations can nominate a young Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander visual artist from 18 years to 26 years of age for the award.

Eligibility
The Qantas Young and Emerging Indigenous Art Award is open to young and emerging visual artists from the ages 18 to 26 years are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent who are in the first five years of their professional practice.

Selection criteria
Expressions of interest will be assessed by the following selection criteria:

  • artistic merit (of the artists’ work to date)
  • a proposal that outlines what the artist intends to do with this award to contribute to their professional development.
