Description

The designs, much more than the dots which for most people identify the style, are the essence of Western Desert art. Though dots were part of the traditional painting language, the very first Papunya paintings from the beginning of the 70“’s consisted of ceremonial designs, sometimes outlines with white dots, against plain backgrounds. (exert from Vivien Johnson, The art of Clifford Possum)

This work created at the end of the artists life pre-stages his own death and is devoid of all surface decoration, leaving the powerful image unadorned.
